The start-up ZEUS Scooters launched its electric scooter rental service in Würzburg at the beginning of October 2020. Now the e-scooter rental company is opening a business and innovation hub in the digital incubator. There, ZEUS is researching and developing the future of micromobility. “The state of Bavaria and the city of Würzburg have given our Irish start-up a very warm welcome and the rental of our scooters has begun accordingly. We are pleased that we are now expanding our commitment in Würzburg,” said Damian Young, founder and CEO of ZEUS Scooters.

To this end, the e-scooter company recently established a business and innovation hub. When it came to the location, the choice fell on the digital startup center in Würzburg. At the Center for Digital Innovations (ZDI) Mainfranken, ZEUS Scooters is researching and developing with immediate effect and is also setting up customer service for Germany.

The goal of ZEUS Scooters is to increase innovation capacity for the micromobility of the future. This is because e-scooters are a new means of transport in the mobility landscape and complement the options of walking, cycling or public transport for short distances of up to five kilometers. For research and development, ZEUS Scooters not only seeks cooperation with other mobility companies, but also with universities and colleges in Mainfranken.

In establishing the business and innovation hub, the Irish start-up company was supported by the business development agency “Invest in Bavaria”. ZEUS Scooters was awarded the “Ois Easy” start-up package. This includes coaching, co-working spaces, access to the investor network, operational support for the start-up and access to the start-up network, among other things.

“We are very pleased that Zeus has opened its German branch in Bavaria and has chosen ZDI Mainfranken in Würzburg for this purpose. We will do our best to help the young Irish startup with the further development of their product and growth with our network into science and business and the talent pool here on site,” said Dr. Christian Andersen, Network Manager from ZDI Mainfranken.

“We decided to invest in Germany because there is a mandatory law for the use of `small electric vehicles’ here since June 2019. Of course, the German market is also very attractive thanks to the many medium-sized cities. And the `Ois Easy’ package enabled us to enter the market quickly and easily,” explains Damian Young. “Now we are working hard to lend our three-wheeled e-scooters in more and more medium-sized cities.”
