ZEUS Scooters awarded €238,000 in technology and innovation funds

ZEUS Scooters today announce the award of €238,000 grant funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) in Germany supporting innovation and development to mainstream micro-mobility services.

ZEUS Scooters commenced e-scooter services in the Germany market in early 2020 and is now operating in over 20 locations there. It expanded across Europe this year, now with a presence in five European markets and poised to launch it’s first Asian city this month.

The funding award is delivered through the BMVI’s mFund funding programme and is granted to ZEUS Scooter for innovation and continued development of micro-mobility concepts, specifically in the areas of integration, control and management.

The funding will be delivered from now until 2024 through a project that is being jointly delivered by ZEUS Scooters and four other industry leading partners; Siemens AG, Hacon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, Regensburger Verkehrsverbund, City of Regensburg and R-Tech GmbH. The project will create at least 10 jobs across technology, product and operations and will accelerate ZEUS Scooters’ technology and infrastructure product development and innovation.

The projects and learnings from the Germany market, one of the most mature micro-mobility markets in Europe, will be critical to the successful roll-out of e-scooter services in Ireland, where legislation is due to be passed by the end of the year.

Speaking about this funding award, Damian Young CEO and Founder of ZEUS Scooters said “We are delighted to receive this award from the BMVI, it is a testament to the work of our team in this market and the standing of ZEUS Scooters as a market leader. This project will bring together the brightest minds from our team, Siemens AG, amongst others to truly change the way mobility is delivered for cities. I am excited about the innovations we have in the pipeline and this investment will be super-charge their delivery to coincide with a launch in Ireland in 2022”.

ZEUS launched its unique 3 Wheel Scooter in the city of Heidelberg in 2020 and has since expanded across Germany, Europe with a launch imminent in Asian. Its scooter has mass appeal to all generations because of its stability and safety standards. Its fleet extends to nearly 4,000 scooters internationally. The company is backed by a number of investors including veteran entrepreneur Colm Menton, who was behind the Irish arm of Europcar, which he sold for more than €25m in 2017.
